Rex

I’d like a baby dinosaur
To be my private pet.
I’d teach him tricks and help him roar
And take him to my vet.

I’d ride him ‘round and ‘round the block
And to the shopping mall.
I’d show him how to dance to rock
And how to catch a ball.

Our neighbor’s dog would flee in fright.
Adults would stand and stare.
But kids would scream with sheer delight
And follow ev’rywhere.

I’d feed him cake and watch him grow.
Forever we’d be linked.
I’d be the only kid I know
Whose pet was once extinct.
